» Amanda Kendle - What's your homestay experience? Have you ever taken the plunge and stayed with a local family instead of checking into the nearest 4-star hotel? What was your experience? Good or bad, I'd love to hear about it, wherever in the world you did it.» Katrien Vander Straeten - What's your homestay experience? In response to What's your homestay experience? posted by akendle:Hi Amanda, I've neer done this but would love to. I think it is definitely the way to travel! Up until now I wasn't aware that this is a valid option for the more adventurous traveller. Thank you for the article. The closest I ever got to the old Soviet Union was Prague in the 1980s, just before the "Velvet Revolution". What a shock it was for a "Westerner" to have to stand in so many lines in a shop before finally being handed over a simple loaf of bread. I also saw it several times after the fall of the communist regime. Many things improved, of course, but it was never again the "Other"... Thank you, Katrien » Amanda Kendle - What's your homestay experience? In response to What's your homestay experience? posted by kaatvds:Hi Katrien,
