Low cost airline SkyEurope started out small in Bratislava, Slovakia, but has since expanded across Eastern Europe and offers flights from Prague and Budapest too.

SkyEurope is one of the most useful budget airlines for travelers to Eastern Europe. With bases in four countries and around a hundred different routes, it’s easy to get around quickly and cheaply. Whether you want to get into Eastern Europe from London or other western European destinations, or you want to make the most of your time in Eastern Europe by moving quickly from Bulgaria to Slovakia or from Romania to Poland, it's worth checking if SkyEurope might be a good option for your travel plans.

The Development of SkyEurope

The SkyEurope airline began operating in 2002 out of Bratislava, Slovakia. It was in the low cost carrier market just as it was taking off in Europe, and was already in full swing when Slovakia and its neighbors joined the European Union at the beginning of 2004. With the continuing interest of travelers in Eastern Europe, SkyEurope has been able to continue adding routes and opening airport hubs.

Flying With SkyEurope

Currently SkyEurope has airport hubs in the following cities:

Flights go between around 40 different cities in 19 countries, with an emphasis on Eastern European destinations. Some of the quite unique flight routes include flights from London to the High Tatra Mountains (landing in the town of Poprad), Slovakia; flights from all the hub cities to Catania on the island of Sicily, Italy; and a direct route from Copenhagen to Budapest. As with all budget airlines, you have to be careful to check which airport the flight will land at, as “second airports” are often used by such airlines to avoid the higher costs of landing at main airports like Frankfurt or London Heathrow.

Making a SkyEurope Booking

Like most budget airlines, the majority of bookings for flights with SkyEurope are made over the internet. The cost of a flight varies depending on the day, time and season, as well as how far in advance you book. They often have special deals that are time-sensitive, and it pays to be on their email mailing list if you’re planning some Eastern European trips.

The SkyEurope Flight Experience

Being a budget airline means that SkyEurope offers a typical no-frills service. Meals are not included with flight tickets, but you can buy snacks and drinks from a trolley at quite reasonable prices. Unlike some other budget airlines in Europe, SkyEurope still allows you to carry checked baggage for free. Flights are generally operated on time.
